Preschool and Children's Courses

IS THERE A COST?
Elementary language classes are free for Ontario residents (Kindergarten to Grade 8).
For some courses, parents may be required to purchase textbooks at a nominal cost.

WHAT AGE DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TO SIGN UP FOR A CLASS?
Kindergarten students must be 4 years old by December 31. Elementary grade students may attend the ILP elementary program until they graduate from Grade 8 and if they’re under 16 years of age.

IS IT TOO LATE TO REGISTER TODAY?
Elementary (Kindergarten to Grade 8) registration takes place all year and students may join the class at any point during the school year.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE CLASSES HELD?
Kindergarten to Grade 8 classes are held for 2.5 hours weekly from early-September to mid-June, on Saturdays at Limestone Community Education (164 Van Order Drive, Kingston, ON).

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO KNOW THE LANGUAGE BEFORE REGISTERING?
No. Students are welcome to learn a completely new language previously unknown to them, to begin learning their heritage language, or to perfect their home language if they’re already speakers of the language.
As much as possible, instructors strive to meet the needs of each student, whether or not the student has had previous exposure to the language.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT MY CHILD IS BEING TAUGHT IN CLASS?
Each language instructor has a Plan of Study for parents to review.
The program is based on and supported by the Ministry of Education of Ontario’s Curriculum for international languages.
The ILP instructors encourage parents to take interest in their children’s language
classes and on their progress in learning the language.

WILL THE CULTURAL COMPONENT OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDE RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION?
No. ILP classes are strictly language classes with a cultural component that helps the
students understand the cultural context(s) related to the language, but not with any religious rituals, dogmas, rules, or course content based on the practice of a religion.
